Classroom Rules
1. Show R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Show respect for:
--The opinions of others (no teasing, bullying, ridiculing)
--School property
--Each others’ property
2. Be Prepared
Everyday you come to class bring:
--A notebook to record information or assignments\
--A writing utensil (pen with blue/black ink or pencil) to write in your notebook
--A folder to organize your assignments/notes
3. Open Your Ears & Minds
Listen when:
--Mr. Dyrdahl is giving instructions
--You are working in groups and hears the chimes
--Classmates are presenting their findings/opinions in a discussion
When in class:
--Be involved
--Participate in learning activities
--Ask questions you may have about what we are learning
4. Use Resources Wisely
When you have time to work in class:
--Use all of the time available to you (don’t pack up your stuff and sit for the last few minutes)
--Realize that the more you get done in class the less you have to do later!
When we are using technology:
--Be on the sites that we are using for our activity
--Respect others’ work
--Respect the property of the school, realizing that others after you also need to use these resources
5. Don’t suffer in silence
If you need help:
--Get my attention during class
--Set-up a time with me that we can meet before/after school
--Coordinate with classmates
6. Find your voice
When you are doing your work:
--Focus on expressing your thoughts/findings the best you can
--Resist the urge to copy or take someone else’s answer as your own
--Take pride in doing the best job you can do
--Remember that the voice you find here at PCHS is something that you can take with you the rest of your life
Section II: Consequences for choosing to violate the rules
1st Time: Non-verbal cue (eye contact, tap on desk, etc.)
2nd Time: Verbal cue/redirection (reminder of appropriate behavior)
3rd Time: Verbal warning/deduction of citizenship point
4th Time: Discussion after class, which may result in detention or another appropriate consequence
5th Time: Student behavior contract
**Severity Clause**
Behaviors that threaten the physical or emotional safety of others or their belongings (violence, destruction of property, profanity, and other abusive language) or completely prevent the class from functioning will result in an automatic behavior referral.
Procedures and Routines
Entering the classroom and getting to work immediately
1. Come on time with resources (folder/notebook/writing utensil)
2. Once the bell rings immediately find your way to your seat
3. Look at the board for objectives
4. Look for introductory activity and complete it
*If absent the day before check for make-up work in the make-up folders before class
Ending the class period
1. Work until the bell on assignments
2. Before leaving make sure your area is as nice or nicer than it was when you arrived
3. Return to your seats before dismissal
Tardiness
1. A tardy is not being to class before the bell rings
2. Once the bell rings, you need to get to your seat, read our objectives, and start on our introductory activity
3. Three tardies= 1 absence
True Group Work
1. Be involved—don’t just expect one person to do all of the work if you’d like credit
2. Fulfill the role(s) that are assigned to you as a part of your group
3. Focus on your assignment, not socializing
